This classic recipe typically consists of al dente spaghetti/ or any other pasta, topped with a rich and savory meat sauce. The key component of this dish is the sauce, which is made by simmering ground meat (usually beef or lamb) with aromatic ingredients like onions, celery, carrots along with certain herbs and spices.
Some of the ingredients used in this recipe are
Ingredients for the vegetables (which would be added to the meat sauce)
Olive oil- 1.5 tbsp
Onions-1 finely chopped
Carrots- 2 tbsp finely chopped
Celery- 1 tbsp finely chopped
Rosemary- 1-2 sprigs
Basil leaves- 10-15
Directions
1.In a pan ,add olive oil, fry the onions for 2 min until they are pink. Add the carrots, celery rosemary and basil leaves and let it cook for 2 minutes. Once done ,keep it aside.
Ingredients for the meat sauce
Olive oil- 2 tbsp
Black peppercorns- 8-10
Bay leaf- 2
Lamb mince- 500 gm
Red wine- 2-3 tbsp
Stock - 2 -3 cups
Tomato puree- 6 tomatoes / canned tomatoes -1 big can.(Note-I have used fresh tomatoes, but the authentic recipe requires canned tomatoes for the perfect color and flavour)
Butter- 2 tbsp
Directions
1.In a pan, add olive oil ,black peppercorns, bay leaves, lamb mince and let it cook for 8-10 minutes. Add the red wine, stock and tomato puree and let it simmer for 5-6 minutes. Now add the cooked vegetables and it to simmer for 45 minutes on slow flame. This is a very important step as it allows the flavours to merge and intensify. Add salt, pepper and butter and dried oregano (optional).
2.Once done, add this delicious meat sauce on top of the cooked pasta. Garnish with fresh basil and lots of parmesan cheese.
